Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy

What is Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy?

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is not the same thing as Ashiatsu. While the origination of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy began with the founder’s knowledge of Ashiatsu, the treatments are completely different. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is a type of massage therapy in which the practitioner suspends herself from a bar on the ceiling and massages the patient with her feet. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is a deep compression massage that is done in a push-pull-pumping effect on the patient’s muscles. By doing this, the massage offers relaxation as well as pain relief.

What is the history of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy?

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is one of the most recently created forms of massage therapy practiced in America. Developed by Ruthie Piper Hardee in the 1990’s, it is quickly becoming a common form of massage therapy. She was a traditional massage therapist until one night, when her hands were already aching and she thought she could offer no more massages, one of her clients arrived and asked for a massage. She went ahead and gave the massage to the client, but she did it using her feet (she climbed up on the table and held onto the rafter above).

The client was unaware of this, and told her afterward that it was the best massage he had ever had. While Ashiatsu is also a massage done with the feet (also known as barefoot shiatsu), and she was aware of this type of massage, she expanded on it and made it different. There are different strokes, the patient does not lie on the floor, and it is not performed through clothing.

How is Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy beneficial?

There are many ways that Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy can be beneficial, including the immediate benefits that most massages offer, such as:

  • Reduced stress
  • Relaxation

There are also many other benefits to Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, including:

  • Reduction of pain
  • Reduction of swelling and inflammation along the spine

What happens during an Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy session?

For a session of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, you will remove as much clothing as you are comfortable with, and the parts of your body that do not need exposure will be covered. The practitioner of the Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy will climb up onto the massage table that you are laying on and, stabling themselves with the bar on the ceiling, they will begin to massage you with their feet using a combination of Ashiatsu and Swedish foot massage.

As you can see, Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy offers many benefits. Call a local Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapist today to schedule your appointment.
