Polarity Therapy

What is Polarity Therapy?

Polarity therapy is a natural system that seeks to balance life energy within the body. Polarity therapy accomplishes this balance in four different ways, including touch, self-awareness, diet and exercise. Combining all of these elements allows the patient’s physical and mental body to balance itself out and create better health and well-being.

The energy that Polarity therapy tries to balance within the body is not unlike the life energy that is involved in many other forms of massage therapy and other holistic healing methods.

What happens during Polarity therapy?

As mentioned above, there are four main aspects to Polarity therapy. For the patient to achieve the full benefits that Polarity therapy has to offer, all four of these must be addressed.

  • Bodywork to rebalance energy—the main difference between the energy in Polarity therapy and the energy in other forms of therapy is that the energy itself is thought to have a specific makeup that can be one of three things: positive, negative, or neutral. The goal of Polarity therapy is to balance the energy so that it remains in a neutral state.

This neutral state is accomplished using light bodywork (meaning that the bodywork is non-manipulative). The Polarity therapy practitioner will place his hands on the patient’s body, one hand at a point on the body that is a negative energy center and one that is designated a positive energy center. Unlike some forms of energy healing therapy, in Polarity therapy, the practitioner does not give the patient any energy. Instead, he merely directs the patient’s energy in the correct direction. Once the neutral energy is restored, the energy can then become free flowing again, which leads to health and well-being.
  • Diet—the next step in Polarity therapy is a short-term diet. This is a purification diet that is intended for cleansing. This will be followed by a more appropriate long-term diet.
  • Exercise—the third step in Polarity therapy is the exercise portion. Exercise is as important in Polarity therapy as bodywork or diet, and is made up of specific exercises known as Polarity Yoga. Polarity Yoga is made up of a series of self-help techniques and poses that are designed to create balance and relaxation within the body.
  • Self-awareness—the final portion of Polarity therapy is self-awareness. The therapist will help the patient reach this goal using a variety of ways to help him understand the source of his own tension, ways to eliminate this tension, as well as other ways to sustain health and wellness.

Once all of the four main points have been addressed using Polarity therapy, the patient can achieve happiness, better health, and an overall sense of well-being. If these are benefits you would like to experience, you can start by contacting a Polarity therapist near you and scheduling your first appointment today!
