Qigong

What is Qigong?

Qigong, pronounced “chigong,” is a form of body/mind therapy and a way of life that is based on the belief in Qi (pronounced chi). Qi is the life energy that is believed in traditional Oriental medicine to flow through all living things (this includes humans, animals, plants, etc.). This Chinese holistic system of health includes exercise and meditation, diet, breathing techniques, massage therapy, and more to create and maintain a healthy balance and flow of Qi within the body. Qigong is not a form of therapy that is used as a temporary or immediate fix for health, though. Instead, it is a way of life.

What does Qigong consist of?

There are two main forms of Qigong: the first is known as dynamic/active Qigong, and the second is tranquil/passive Qigong. More information on these two forms of Qigong is below:

Dynamic Qigong (also known as dong gong) is the portion of Qigong that includes noticeably active physical movement. This includes exercises, yoga postures, etc. Dynamic Qigong is the most popular and the most practiced form of Qigong. It is the form in which the body is in obvious movement, but the mind is quiet, peaceful and at rest.

Tranquil Qigong (also known as jing gong) is the part of Qigong in which the entire body is still, but the mind is alert and actually paying attention to the Qi and its movement. Tranquil Qigong includes forms of therapy such as meditation, breathing techniques, etc.

What are the benefits of Qigong?

The ultimate benefit (as well as the goal) of Qigong is to have a healthy supply and a steady proper flow of Qi within the body. Once this goal has been reached using Qigong, many benefits are experienced by the patient. The benefits to individuals with active flowing abundant Qi can include longevity, happiness, well-being, better physical and mental health, a better sex life, and more.

If you are seeking better health and happiness, more awareness and control of your own body and mind, and are willing to make drastic permanent lifestyle changes, Qigong can be the answer you are looking for.
